GET TO KNOW THE NEW GLASS ONION | RECLAIMED VINTAGE COLLAB
By Ayis Stephen-Diver, 7 May 2024

Glass Onion was founded in 2005 and we have an in-house factory where our machinists transform damaged or unwanted garments into new designs that can be loved again – just like we did for this collection! After exchanging design ideas and visiting each other’s HQs, the collection began to take shape. We're so thrilled it's finally launching!

We have a dedicated team that sources from Textile Recycling Plants across Europe and the US. They sort through over 10,000kg of material per day, and vintage accounts for about 1% of that! Once we have enough, it's baled and shipped to our warehouse, where the journey continues.
This collection is super nostalgic. What influenced it?
It's a hybrid between the 90s college aesthetic and grungey balletcore. There’s everything from graphic tees and plaid shirts to girly accents like bows and lace. Of course, denim plays a HUGE role in the collection – the resized baggy jeans even required us to completely re-profile a large pair into smaller sizes!

Hard one... tell us your favourite piece!
The denim waistcoat! Crafted entirely from Levi's jeans off-cuts, it's the perfect example of how we upcycle to create something new and exciting. It was complex to create because of the number of components involved, but the result is amazing.
Are there any interesting reworking techniques used?
We've been exploring techniques such as splicing, patchworking and resizing, with emphasis on incorporating bows and lace trims. Our spliced T-shirt is definitely a fave, the dual design gives it so much character.

Why choose vintage?
From the print, to the pattern, to the denim wash – each piece is entirely unique. You're guaranteed to be wearing something truly one-of-a-kind that nobody else owns, each piece carries its own story.
What goals did you want to fulfil with this drop?
We want to carry on doing what we've always done – rescuing even more clothes from landfills and offering a greener approach to fashion.
