HOW TO DO SOFIA RICHIE GRAINGE'S VIRAL BUN

Ofc our 👑 of quiet luxury is here with another trend for us to try! But what's new about a slicked-back bun?, we hear you ask. Well, dear readers, it’s less about the style itself and more about the products that Mrs Richie Grainge uses to get both a sleek, flyaway-proof finish that ALSO intensely nourishes your barnet. We’ve seen Sofia rocking her self-described 'lazy girl hairstyle' anywhere from red carpets to Pilates classes – meaning you, too, can do this 'do for *lits* every occasion. First dates to first days at college, here’s how you look SNATCHED in approx. 10 mins.

THE INSPO

Sofia’s been putting the mood in moodboard for a while now – so when she drops a vid showing an easy-to-recreate hairstyle for us bbs on a busy schedule, we click QUICKK 🏎️ And while we know she’s a luxury lover, the great thing about this style (other than making you look like you’ve got your 💩 together) is that the products don’t have to break the bank. More coming up...👇

THE PRODUCTS

This look is NOTHING without a few key products. (You don't need 'em all ofc – and you'll want to think about what best suits your hair type.) First, the right brushes: one for precision partings and another for scraping your hair right back. We recommend Cantu’s Part & Twist Hair Comb Set and a Tangle Teezer (duh). Next, an oil that seals in any flyaways and ups the shine for the final look. You can’t beat the iconic hair oil from BREAD for this, or SACHAJUAN’s Intensive Repair Oil if you’re after a luxe option.

But the real 🗝️ is subbing out gel for a hair mask – which, unless you need super-strength hold, keeps everything in place just fine. Sofia reckons this step helped her hair get healthier – fingers crossed it does the same for us 🤞 We’re HUGE fans of the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Mask for the gorge fragrance and intense nourishment. You also can’t go wrong with Revolution Haircare’s Moisture Lock Hair Mask, which has ceramides (also a skincare fave 🌹) AND an £8 price tag 👏

THE METHOD

Start by carving out a SHARP middle parting on wet, combed-out hair. Then apply your hair mask all through your hair – don’t be shy with it and DON’T miss the back. Next, section off the hair that frames your face, starting just behind your ears and going up to your parting, and then clip these bbs out the way. Apply hair serum (L’Oreal’s Bond Repair Serum is fab) to the rest of your hair and brush it up into a neat ponytail. A backcomb brush will get it extra snatched.

You’re then gonna brush the front sections (one side at a time) back towards your pony, making sure the pieces are tight to your head. Use a mask or serum to secure any baby hairs. Tie those strands into the rest of your pony before twisting it into a bun and securing with a tie (or a giant scrunchie 🩷). Finish with hair oil and VOILA, you’re Sofia Richie for the day. Sofia does this bun with wet hair, but some hairdressers say this can cause breakages. So, stick to dry stylin' if you're prone to 'em!
