THE MAC STUDIO FIX CHEAT SHEET

Chances are you've already tried MAC's cult Studio Fix range at some point or other. With kind-to-skin formulas, every level of coverage you can dream of (full? lightweight? dewy?) and an inclusive 67-shade range, it’s one of the most iconic foundation collections ever made. But how do you find the right formula for your skin type and vibe? Below, three MAC makeup experts reveal their top tips for each Studio Fix formula on ASOS, all to help you find THE one.
MAC Studio Fix

FOR A SMOOTH FINISH: Studio Fix Powder Plus, £27

Nisha Sirpal (@nishasirpal_makeup), Digital Learning & Education Manager at MAC UK & Ireland, gives us the lowdown on everyone's fave powder...

What makes it unique?
'The texture! It’s a blend of powder and medium-to-full coverage, which makes it so versatile and easy-to-use. It immediately reduces the appearance of pores and is really long-lasting, too.'

Who is it best suited to?
'It works on all skin types, but I do find it particularly good for someone with oily skin to help control shine. I love to keep this in my handbag to touch up throughout the day and remove any excess oil.'

Type of finish?
'A beautifully smooth, matte vibe that feels like velvet.'

How to find the right shade?
'With so many of us shopping online now for foundation, this is key. I would identify the undertone of how you want the powder to look first. If you want something more golden, go with a NC, and if you want something rosier, go with a NW. Then try to identify the depth of colour you want... the higher the number, the deeper the shade.'

MAC Studio Fix

FOR FULL COVERAGE: Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 Foundation, £27

Carly Utting (@mac_carlyutting), National Artist MAC UK & Ireland, shares her top tips for using this iconic base...

What makes this formula unique?
'Studio Fix Fluid is truly one of a kind and will perform in whatever way you want it to. Full and flawless? Just build up the layers. Sheer and dewy? Mix with a little dab of MAC Strobe Cream, and it turns into the most luxurious radiant foundation. Pair this with the fact that it comes in 67 shades, and for me there is no comparison to this foundation!'

Who is it best suited to?
'While it works for all skin types, the matte coverage works well for oily skin. After spritzing the Prep & Prime Fix+ to hydrate the skin, apply the Studio Fix Fluid using a 190s brush. The long-lasting formula contains silica, which helps absorb and disperses oil. Magic!'

How do you find your shade and undertone?
'One of the easiest ways to find your undertone is to look at the veins on your wrist. If you have bluer veins, this usually means you have a warm (NW) undertone. If the veins in your wrist are on the greener side, this usually means you have a cooler (NC) undertone. Then find your exact shade: it goes from 5 (being the lightest) to 60 (being the deepest).'

Studio Fix Concealers

FOR LIGHT COVERAGE/NO-MAKEUP MAKEUP: Studio Fix Concealer, £20

We asked Marc Sinclair Mua (@marcsinclairmua), Regional Trainer for MAC UK & Ireland, about this must-have concealer...

What makes this concealer unique?
'It's so weightless on the skin, and yet it still manages to give an extremely flawless and smooth coverage without moving or creasing all day.'

Who is it best suited to?
'Everyone. It comes in a vast range of shades and contains hydrating ingredients, whilst also being oil-free to ensure it works for all skin types.'

What type of finish do you get?
'This concealer creates a natural matte finish, which means it isn’t flat or heavy looking when applied, and it reflects just enough light from the skin to give a natural, smooth effect.'

What's your top tip for finding the right shade of concealer?
'This concealer is made one shade lighter than Studio Fix Fluid Foundation. So, if you are an NC30 in the foundation then you would use the same shade (NC30) in the concealer, and it will subtly brighten the under-eyes for a more youthful and fresh finish. If you have dark circles under the eyes, I would always recommend using one of the “NW” tones as these have a warmer undertone that will help brighten this up.'

How do you apply it?
'I love creating a triangle of light under the eyes with this concealer, using the doe-foot applicator. Go from the inner corner of the eye, down to the centre of the cheek and back up to the outer corner of the eye, and then blend it upwards with a MAC 217S brush. It adds light to the centre of the face and highlights the top of the cheekbones.'
