COAT-SPIRATION WE’RE TAKING FROM COPENHAGEN FASHION WEEK
By Emma Strawbridge, January 31, 2025
Copenhagen Fashion Week is the destination of the truly stylish, and this season we can’t stop looking at all the coats everyone’s wearing. From cow-print everything to giant fluffy silhouettes, the coat is the moment. So, if you’re in the market for some new outerwear (or even if you’re not), here’s every coat trend we’re crushing on from the capital of Scandi fashion.

THE UNEXPECTED TRENCH
The trench coat is a forever classic. The historic silhouette has utility origins which can be noted in details like the shoulder epaulettes and pockets, but the fashion girls are revamping it for 2025. We’re seeing cropped trenches, caped trenches – you name it, they’re recreating it. And its lightweight fabric makes it the perfect transitional layer.

EXAGGERATED TAILORING
We all know that masculine tailoring ft. suits and ties is having a major comeback, but it’s being extended to coats in the most dramatic way. Shoulders are exaggerated, lengths are floor-sweeping, the fits are either super oversized or snatched within an inch of their lives. Get yourself a formal coat and elevate every look for the new season.

FLUFF ON FLUFF
From serious tailoring to life-of-the-party statement fluff, anything goes this fashion week. This faux-fur coat is cozy and cool in equal measure, and confirms we’ll be wearing burgundy into spring. The other color of the season? Buttermilk yellow. We love the tied waist and contrasting black leather accessories this coat has been paired with.

COW-PRINT COOL
If you take one note from Copenhagen Fashion Week, let it be that cow print is top of the class. The statement-making print is perfect on a coat, from previously mentioned fluffy styles to faux-cowhide textures and leather. But if you’d rather pare it back, we’ve seen it on bags, shorts, shoes and more.

WARM TEXTURES
Warm brown tones are hot for SS25 and perfectly fit the boho/western vibes that will be on our radar all summer. We’ll be focusing on textures when we invest: leather is a classic, and suede is going to be perfect for festivals and transitional looks alike. Choose to make a statement with leather-on-leather or opt for classic pairings like denim and knitwear when it comes to outfit planning.
