THE WICKED PREMIERE WAS A TUTORIAL ON METHOD DRESSING
By Symone Keisha, November 19, 2024
If you've somehow managed to bypass the Wicked hype... how? Last night was the final stop of the worldwide Wicked rollout in London, and it was a big lesson in method dressing. Method dressing is when an actor honors their role by dressing similarly to their character. We've seen it with Zendaya throughout the Dune 2 and Challengers press runs, Margot Robbie with Barbie and Jenna Ortega with her Beetlejuice Beetlejuice 'fits. So, as you can imagine, the stars on the green carpet donned looks that reflected key characters of the musical-turned-blockbuster. Scroll for the lowdown on the looks from our faves.

THE 'ALWAYS SERVING' DUO
Masters of method dressing, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, nailed the assignment yet again. Usually dressed in pink and green on the press tour like their characters Glinda and Elphaba, the duo took inspo from the original show's musical number 'One Short Day'. The result? 10/10. Ariana was a dream in a lemon-coloured tulle dress and Cynthia's all-black Schiaparelli look from the FW24 couture collection gave us witchy vibes – but make it fashion. Plus, that bejeweled leg was a *major* serve.

THINK PINK
If anyone can turn heads on a red carpet, it's our fave drag queen Tayce. Tayce repped Glinda to the fullest in a sheer and embellished mini dress ft. two tones of pink – and didn’t stop there. Just like Renée, the beat was phenom, and the pink eyeshadow took the whole look to another level. Meanwhile, Munroe Bergdorf also shone in Glinda's signature color, but she chose a softer shade and hand-crafted 'feathers' in a blooming wraparound design. Incredible.

THE ALL-BLACK MOMENT
Speaking of all-black 'fits on the red carpet, FLO gave us 'Fly Girl' looks that have altered our brain chemistry. Proving that black doesn’t have to be boring, they nailed Elphaba’s signature color and took it to another level with silver accessories. P.S. we’ll def be using Renée's dark lip liner as inspo for our party-season looks.

DRESS THE PART
It wasn’t all pink, green and black looks on the red carpet though. Bel Priestley nodded to Dorothy's silver shoes from the original 1900 book in the best way possible: a glistening silver dress – jaw = dropped. And Amber Davies stunned, as per usual, in peach tones and lace showing us that method dressing doesn't always have to be taken sooo literally.
