STYLE LESSONS FROM KATE MOSS

If the frenzy around the Oasis reunion is anything to go by, you’ll want to dust off your parka because Britpop is going to be a huge influence over the next year. And while there’s plenty to say about the Gallaghers’ Mod style, we can’t talk about 90s culture without Kate Moss entering the chat. A major personality on the Britpop party scene, she was the original cool girl – whether rocking a minimalist shift dress, full-on sequins or festival boots. And with It-girl looks a major trend for the new season, there’s no better time to take a look at the enduring influence of La Moss.

THE PARTY PIECE

Kate made making an entrance an art form thanks to some style signatures that have become part of everyone's going-out line-up. Take the iconic faux-fur jacket – Kate's been through every iteration of it over the decades. She often favors a slightly cropped, wide-shouldered style to offset a maxi dress or her trademark skinny jeans. And as luck would have it, not only are faux-fur jackets a key piece for FW24 (dropping soon in our New In section), but the skinny jeans/long boots combo is also making a comeback.

THE TOPSHOP REIGN

We can’t talk Kate Moss without talking Topshop. Throughout her incredible 13 collaborations with the brand, everyone from fashion’s finest to teenage fans would line up around the block to get their hands on a piece of the collection. They’re still being searched on resale sites today – and of course that design legacy lives on in the brand's latest collections. Even more iconic? THE FACE BEAT

From no-makeup makeup to the grungey lived-in mascara and eyeliner combo and that classic red lip – Kate's on the moodboard for most of the big makeup trends of the past few decades. She might be friends with Charlotte Tilbury, but her signature is less about the look and more the effortless vibe: even today, her current lit-from-within skin is the stuff of legend. Pared back with a soft lip and a touch of bronzer? We’re taking notes.
