A close relation to both the prairie and ultra-fem movements, the milkmaid aesthetic has all the details you’d expect, with square necklines, puffy sleeves, shirred details — ya know, all that good stuff. We know we’re not supposed to have favorites, but this gingham get-up is doing a pretty good job of convincing us otherwise. Giving us a lesson in grunge-inspired picnic couture (it’s a thing), this look is all about balance. On its own, the midi dress is a pretty cutesy piece, but throw in a few ironic monochrome add-ons, including chunky boots and a ribbed jersey underlayer, and you’ve got yourself a look that’s somewhere between girly and gritty — so good.
Holey crop
Good to see you again, broderie anglaise — it’s been a minute. Now, usually, holes all over your clothes isn’t a good sign, but in the case of this white crop top, it absolutely is. Try teaming it with flared jeans decked out in painterly brushstrokes and heeled leopard-print boots for an unexpected twist. The oversized tortoiseshell hoops help incorporate those on-trend resin accents too.

Remember that SATC episode where Carrie visits Aidan’s cabin and tries her hand at living the simple life? Well, this bow-tied button-through number in neon green (also huge right now, in case you didn’t know) is giving us major Carrie-in-the-country vibes.
