What do you want people to know about Lovie Simone?
I’m the typical teenage girl. I usually do my own makeup for photoshoots and red carpets, I did it today. I’m a beauty guru all around — I have a YouTube channel where I post hair and makeup tutorials. I have a fraternal twin sister and a dog named Ziggy after Ziggy Marley. I’m very family oriented so everything I do is with and for my family — because I love them!

Tell us a little bit about Greenleaf.
So on Greenleaf I play the bad girl, I'm the preacher's daughter. She's messy. It's so fun to play her and I love getting feedback. As long as people hate me, I’m doing my job right! I just love Greenleaf. It’s about a family that owns a megachurch and there’s a lot of scandal. It has a lot of things that people don't talk about on TV, which is really cool.

What's coming up for you?
I have a film coming up called Monster, based on the book by Walter Dean Myers. It’s about a kid who gets caught up in a murder case and you go on his journey and see how he’s basically treated like a monster. I play his girlfriend and it was an amazing experience to film. A$AP Rocky, Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Ehle and a whole bunch of amazing actors are in it, it was great to be on that set.
Yes, she has. It was right after the election. I'm very passionate and sometimes my passion looks like aggression, and she shifted my perspective. She told me you can be friends with anyone [no matter who they voted for], and you can put that one aspect aside and be able to be productive. She told me that with the amount of hate in the world right now, you shouldn't have hate towards people — she taught me to spread love.

What are your beauty secrets?
I can’t leave the house without some type of lip product. I have to have a gloss, a lipstick, a ChapStick — anything! My beauty secret would be using a face powder on top of concealer. I don’t go for dewy looks because you look shiny on camera so I keep a matte face. This way, if your oils come out during the day, it just looks like your skin.
Who of your peers do you think is crushing it right now?
I love to see Chance the Rapper and Yara Shahidi. I also love to see Skai Jackson representing the brown skin girls.

What are you looking forward to wearing next season?
I can't wait to wear oversized jackets. I want a jean jacket that goes to my ankles. I love the fall colors so I'm really excited to wear oranges and yellows — I think they look great with my skin tone.
Whose style do you love?
Rihanna! Her fashion sense is so out of the box. She brings elegance mixed with rock star and everything is puffy and vibrant. I love the colors and I love everything about her, she can pull off anything. Zendaya is amazing. I like anything that puts a modern twist on old-time style, and I see that in her. I also love Janelle Monae!
