MICHAEL B. JORDAN'S SUIT IS SINFULLY GOOD

Some rules are made to be broken – and if loving this is wrong, we don’t want to be right. Apropos for his latest project, Michael B. Jordan hit the Sinners red carpet last week in a look that rewrote the suiting rulebook. With a left-field lapel, blood-red stitching and jeweled cuffs, it was top-tier tailoring from head to toe. From the pinstripes to perfectly understated shoe, scroll to take a stab at Michael’s sinful look...
THE PINSTRIPES
From 1930s mobsters to turned-out corpcore execs, the pinstripe has taken center stage in this year’s trend cycle – and with the Met Gala fast approaching, it’s likely to stick around. As Michael demonstrates so well, veering from the usual black and white breathes new life into this timeless print. But given its elegant simplicity, you really can’t go wrong here. Whether you opt for a shirt or go full three-piece, pinstripes are a style playground. Don’t be afraid to color outside the lines.
THE ALT TAILORING
To name but a few, Joseph Quinn, Patrick Schwarzenegger and style vet Colman Domingo have all turned tailoring on its head recently – with equally impeccable results. Michael follows suit, proof that a bold new look can be down to the simplest of styling choices. If the overturned lapel isn’t for you, there are plenty of alt suiting options to get your creative juices flowing. Lightweight fabrics, offbeat shades and sharp modern cuts are all part of the arsenal.

THE PERFECT SHOE
'But it’s just a simple boot!', we hear you cry. Look again – Michael’s understated footwear might not scream for attention, but it’s this subtlety that makes it special. Finding the perfect formal shoe is often harder than securing the suit itself. The key is to complement, not compete. In Michael’s case, the black base of the boot continues the suit’s color drench, while the smooth leather finish lets the pinstripe sing. Rule of thumb: if your suit's making a statement, don’t let the shoes do the talking.
