VINTAGE ON ASOS: MEET BREAD AND BUTTER

Luckily for you, Bread and Butter just launched on ASOS, sourcing the *best* pieces to add into your style rotation! We chatted to founders Ben and Sam about how Bread and Butter started and what AW24 ‘fits we should be tapping into this season. Scroll for the scoop.

Bread and Butter launched just before Covid from your bedrooms – tell us your story.
We started by buying a vintage starter box and inside was a Carhartt Arctic jacket that we sold for a tidy profit. From a few orders a week to a few orders per day, after about a year of selling in-person at Portobello Road and Brick Lane, we had our store in Shoreditch. Learning how to run a business, marketing, tax bills, etc tests you but that’s also what keeps you growing as a company!
Bread and Butter is more than just a vintage shop – tell us about your other creative ventures.
We wanted to do what we love, make a space to collab, and offer a platform for other creatives to showcase their thing! We have our vintage shop on the ground floor, and on the first floor we have the Lounge – by day it’s a coffee shop, and by night we host events like DJ sets, fashion shows and art exhibitions. Our music studio, Matter of Time, is on the top floor.

What’s been your favourite vintage find to date?
A Viagra Nascar racing jacket in the blue and white team colours with ‘Viagra’ as the sponsor across the front – pretty wild! And a deep-green Burberry jacket, it looks like a Barbour but is Burberry with the Nova-check lining.
You’re based in Shoreditch and Hackney Wick – do these locations influence the way you source your styles?
For sure, we are blessed with these locations! Inspiration is around every corner with the buildings, street art and the people – the things they are doing and the way they dress is crazy! We wouldn’t be us without them and we are proud to call them our homes.
Bread and Butter is now being stocked on ASOS! What styles can we expect from you?
We specialise in streetwear, sportswear, workwear and designer.
What AW24 trends should a Bread and Butter shopper be wearing?
We are hitting the knits hard – Lacoste cardies and knitted Nike vests are going off. Also representing the footy tops the whole way though with a long-sleeve or roll-neck underneath!
