CONVERSE'S GELATERIA TAKEOVER

To celebrate the all-new Converse Run Star trainers landing on ASOS, we teamed up with the brand to launch a special event in the heart of Soho in London. For one night only we took over Gelupo – one of the capital’s most beloved ice cream parlours – for an evening full of sweet treats, even sweeter sneaker styling and a secret workshop (but more on that below).

In case you didn't know, the Run Star trainers are the brand’s first runner-style sneaker. This kind of style tends to be narrow and low-profile, and the Run Star trainer's unique shape draws on inspiration from 20 (yep, that's right!) of the brand’s classic silhouettes including logo details from the 2019 Run Star Hike as well as an exaggerated tread that takes cues from the OG Converse style: the Chuck Taylor All Star.

We also invited our very own ASOS Insiders to get some tips on how to style Converse’s first runner-style sneaker. But first, ice cream!

Next, our friends over at Filth Florist dropped by and gave everyone a flower-arranging taster session. All the foliage colours matched the summer-ready palette of the Run Star trainers: pink, blue, yellow, cream and black – we loved seeing how creative the Insiders were with their botanical skills *adds floristry to list of new hobbies*.

This really is a masterclass in how to wear coloured sneakers. You can opt for different hues of the same colour for a tonal finish, or use bold colours to add some contrast to your outfit. Sorry, but we particularly love the retro sporty vibe with the mesh T-shirt, plus the short-shorts are perfectly in keeping with Run Stars trainer's throwback energy.

There's something about narrow, runner-style sneakers and baggy jeans that just works. It's certainly down to the 90s/Y2K influence, like styling a long-sleeve tee under a short-sleeve shirt. We're VERY into the colour detail in the outfit on the right too, it's all about matching accents in prints and checks for a coordinated look.
