MET GALA: THE STYLE FEED TEAM'S PREDICTIONS ON THIS YEAR'S LOOKS
By Emma Strawbridge, 3 May 2024

The first Monday in May is fast approaching, and, as always, we’ll be refreshing our feeds from our beds to see what looks our favourite A-listers are serving (while we’re in our best PJs, obv). Until then, over at ASOS HQ, we’ve been musing over who’s going and how they’re going to interpret this year’s theme. Keep reading to find out more about our predictions! P.S. stay tuned for Monday's red carpet report – we'll be giving you the scoop on all the looks.
WHAT'S THE THEME?
This year’s theme is The Garden of Time – inspired by JG Ballard’s 1962 novel of the same name. It coincides with The Met’s exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, which references vintage pieces too fragile to be moved from the museum’s archives. The obvious (and literal) choice for celebs is going to be florals, but vintage pieces have been cropping up on red carpets for a while now, and this is the perfect excuse to wear archival designs from some *iconic* designers – we can’t wait!
WHO'S GOING?
Well, Rihanna for one!! Did we mention we interviewed her last month? Yepp, the queen of The Met will be in attendance, and whether you loved the yellow 2015 Guo Pei dress that birthed a thousand memes or not, you can't deny RiRi knows how to make an entrance. Other confirmed attendees include Zendaya (!!!!), Bad Bunny, JLo and Chris Hemsworth AKA the co-chairs of the event.

THE BREAKOUT STYLE ICON
Barry Keoghan is not yet confirmed for the event, but the Saltburn star regularly opts for standout tailoring on the red carpet – we'd love to see him in some vintage Vivienne Westwood. The theme of rebellion can be interpreted from The Garden of Time, something that's also associated with Westwood’s punk designs.

THE SHOWSTOPPER
We're hoping Lil Nas X makes an appearance because he always serves a look, and it’s always bang on theme. We’re imagining something referencing the time aspect of the theme – either a literal clock or dripping in watches. If the singer's past looks are anything to go by (above was Lil Nas X's Swarovski-covered ode to Karl Lagerfield in 2023), it's sure to be iconic.

BEST DRESSED
We're still not over Bad Bunny's 2023 Met Gala look, and he’s a co-chair for this year's event, so we’re expecting even bigger things from the Puerto Rican singer. The exhibition itself is all about clothes that are too fragile to be worn, so we’d love to see Bad Bunny in a vintage look, but the obvious floral references (if done well) could be a winner too. Something from Thom Browne's SS22 collection featuring a lot of 3D flowers would be 10/10.
