BOAT SHOES ARE BACK: HERE'S HOW TO STYLE THEM FOR SPRING
By Georgia Trevitt, 5 April 2024
We've had rugby shirts, pristine penny loafers and even clogs, but now it's time for the revival of another classic: the boat shoe. Yes, that's right, it's back – and it's becoming the new It shoe for spring. First designed by Paul Sperry in the early 1930s, boat shoes have become synonymous with preppy style. Here's how you can get on board with them for SS24.

OUR FAVOURITE BOAT SHOE PICKS:

#1: FOR A CASUAL LUNCH
Tommy Hilfiger boat shoes in beige, £88
When it comes to lunch plans in the sun, we'll be choosing a beige pair like these Tommy Hilfiger lace-ups. Keep the relaxed-preppy vibes going and wear with smart cargos, a polo shirt and a shacket for a 'fit that's going to EAT.

#2: FOR HEADING TO THE OFFICE
ASOS DESIGN boat shoes in brown leather with gum sole, £40
Boat shoes are smart and comfy – making them the perfect footwear choice for the office. This brown leather pair is calling to be styled with some tailored trousers and a fresh tee (swap for a shirt and knitted vest combo if you need more layers). Trust us, you'll be receiving compliments from your colleagues all day long.

#3: FOR DRINKS WITH FRIENDS
Timberland authentics 3 eye classic boat shoes in burgundy full grain leather, £175
Elevate your look with this classic style from Timberland. We'd add a printed shirt and jeans to this look, or if you're really leaning into cool-guy summer, style with dungarees, a t-shirt and an obligatory coffee cup.

#4: FOR RUNNING ERRANDS
Original Penguin canvas mix casual boat shoes in sand, £23
Another perk of the boat shoe? They’re SO easy to slip on, making them the perfect on-the-go alternative to wearing trainers. Shorts and a hoodie would be an elite match for this pair, and don't forget the all-important socks. This season, socks are made to be seen, so choose brightly-coloured or patterned styles.
