THE BEST THERMAL BASE LAYERS FOR SKI SEASON

It’s ski season! If you’re hitting the slopes, there’s one bit of kit that’s essential: the base layer. While it may not be the most eye-catching part of your ski getup (it’ll be buried beneath lots of other garms, after all), picking the right one is still massively important. Scroll for some of our best base layers below, as well as the jackets and accessories that'll compete your look.

Men’s base layers come in all different materials, suitable for all types of jobs. This first piece by Columbia is made from fleece – probably one of the best for keeping warm on the slopes and great for extra snugness too. Earthy tones will always be a win, so we suggest finding a contrasting pair of black salopettes like ones above from Dare2b. P.S. you’ll be doubling up on the warmth with these because they’re fleece-lined – take that, winter!

We’ve covered warmth, but anyone who’s shredded a few runs in their time will know that both skiing and snowboarding can be A LOT of work. If your runs are a little more on the extreme side, you might want to pick up some underwear and a pair of high-rise leggings which will allow you to move freely. While you’re building up to a sweat though, make sure you grab some ski gloves like the ones above from OOSC to keep that chill out.
Create the perfect canvas for your maximalist side – slide on a black mock-neck base layer and stand out with a bright ski suit. Yes, neutral tones are cool, but a bold-is-best approach on the slopes has been popular since the 80s and 90s. The colour-drenched ski suit hits all the nostalgic vibes, plus it's also water repellant. 10/10.

New ASOS 4505 skiwear dropped this season and if you love matching sets, then this one’s for you. The long-sleeve base layer above comes with matching leggings for effortless co-ordination. If you hate the faff of a ski suit, opt for a toasty puffer jacket instead and don’t forget to get the matching ski pants too. Après-ski fun has never looked so stylish.

The thermal base layers by ASOS 4505 are designed to be seamless, which means this fabric is super-smooth – perfect for physical activity because it reduces any uncomfortable rubbing. Also, your head is one of the most sensitive parts of the body to the cold, so have a scroll through our men’s winter essentials and secure a balaclava or beanie to keep it warm!
