INSPIRATION AND ADVICE

HOW TO DRESS: TALL GUYS

Trying out new styles when you’re tall can be a frustrating endeavour. The good news is, the world of menswear for the taller man is now about so much more than longer-length versions of basic trousers and tees. In fact, our ASOS DESIGN Tall range is full of this summer's most on-point styles, all available in lengths to fit your frame. Here, we share our favourites along with some simple hacks to elevate your summer dressing to new heights.

Top of the crops

If you’ve spent most of your adult life wishing you could find long enough trousers, it’ll be a welcome relief to know that the trend for straight-cut cropped trousers isn't going anywhere. Make sure they finish a couple of inches above the ankle – any more and you’re getting into capri-pant territory. If looking too leggy is a concern, match the colour of your top with your trews like this gent.

Suit up in slim fits

When it comes to tailoring, slim fits are your friend. Billowing material is unflattering regardless of your shape, but, if you’re long-limbed (and skinny to boot), it can do weird things to your proportions. If you’re looking for a timeless cut, try a suit jacket with two buttons – this generally means the lapels sit higher up, which helps add width to your shoulders. To keep the look sharp, sleeves should finish just beyond the wrist bone.

Layer like a player

Taller guys often get fobbed off with advice about sticking to a darker palette, but we say: ignore it. Layer up eclectic pieces like a band tee with a loose plaid shirt over top, then cap it off with the accessories of the season  a slogan cap, logo belt and dad trainers, like this stylish dude.

Great lengths

If you are going to go for a full-length trouser, then be sure to keep the break in your trousers (the slight pooling of material around the ankle) to a minimum. This is caused by trousers that are too long and draws the eye down – so, keep your lines sharp with a hem that ends right at the top of your shoe.

So long, so good

Longer overcoats are another item that look ace on tall men. They create a strong line between the shoulders, hips and knees that, again, helps balance your proportions. A classic mac like this one will be your go-to when things start to cool down.
